ABOUT OUR VOLUNTEERs

Volunteers generally work a routine schedule (e.g. weekly, twice/month, etc.) on a particular day, and may be asked to substitute on different days when other volunteers are out. Volunteers perform the following routine tasks:

PACKING PANTRY
Duties include “picking” pre-packed bags and boxes and packing perishable foods for clients after they have completed paperwork. Requires standing, walking, bending, lifting up to approximately 20 pounds, and the ability to adapt to non-routine situations. Must be comfortable interacting with clients in a variety of situations in a welcoming and professional manner.

CLIENT INTAKE DESK
Involves verifying client paperwork and making appropriate entries into the computer system. Must be comfortable with computer operations. Must be comfortable interacting with clients in a welcoming, calm, and professional manner, in a variety of situations.

BACK ROOM
A variety of support activities including pre-packing bags to be given out from the pantry, receiving food donations (weighing, completing paperwork, and sorting food to go into appropriate storage space), bringing bags from storage cupboards to the packing pantry to restock, and making up bags for packing. Involves lifting up to approximately 20 pounds. Limited client contact.

HEFC is well-staffed with volunteers. However, we sometimes have non-routine needs - if you have a flexible schedule and might be interested, you can call the pantry at 216-381-0707 or email us at hefc@att.net.

We regret that we cannot accommodate groups of volunteers working together, or those who need to complete community service hours.

If you’d like to find other food-related volunteer opportunities, you can contact the Hunger Network of Greater Cleveland (help@hungernetwork.org), or the Greater Cleveland Volunteers (contact@greaterclevelandvolunteers.org)
